    sure, anything is possible. If the crank was twisted, that could be the cause of the deto.......

      If you're getting a new SBT motor, then the crank SHOULD be fine. And, if the timing is "way off", like more than 10 degrees, then both cylinders would suffer. If a new motor is having trouble with only one cylinder, I would suspect the carb, assuming no air leaks and no cooling restrictions. The metal splatter on your plug is probably melted aluminum from the piston. Just sounds to me like you're running very lean and hot for some reason.

        When a crank is twisted, you can have only one clyinder with the timing way off, depending on where the twist is in the crankshaft.
