The only way to get a 1994 XP to reduce the porposing is to put an extension on the rear of the rideplate.

A pair of Worx sponsons will correct that bouncing too. Moreso than that extended ride plate I think. I'd add both anyway.

R&D has a ride plate extension for that model hull.

I had the same problem with the porpoising. The first thing I did was to check and make sure the VTS was working properly. My gauge was working but the nut had spun off of the end of the VTS cable. After repairing I noticed a huge improvement. The guage is just a reference point as to where the nozzle is pointed. Your weight and sitting position also affects it greatly. I purchased an R&D plate extension from Bill and I got rid of almost all of the bouncing. I have not replaced the sponsons. I would recommend the the ride plate extension. BTW...my ski rides as straight as an arrow.

              Re: 94 xp bouncing

The only 93-94 XP I ever rode that didn't run straight was one with a crooked extension. It is critical to get the rideplate into the hull very straight and equal on both sides of the plate with the hull, and when installing a rideplate extension, mounting it perfectly straight in relation with the hull and the oem rideplate. Getting it off by as little as 1/16th inch or more can make the hull do wierd things at high speeds. Other than that, all of the 93-94 XP's I've ridden have not had any problem going straight. I have probably ridden a few dozen different boats. I have owned at least 8 of that model hull.

The 1993 XP hull mold was only used for two years, then Sea Doo changed the molds to extend the transom and recess the hull bottom to accept two plastic trim tabs to help with the proposing problems. The 1995 and later models have oem trim tabs.

Mounting typical aftermarket sponsons like BHE, WORX, ect. greatly increases the ability to crank out hard turns. But, they usually add a bunch of lift to the rear of the hull, and while reducing the porposing, they also scrub off some top speed because they force the nose down at higher speeds. This creates more hull drag and that reduces peak speeds. I spent 6 months developing a set of my own design sponsons that helped turn the hull on the race course, but did not force the hull down too much and allowed good top speeds. Our reward was #1 Overall Pro Runabout Closed Course victory at the 1993 World Finals.

                Re: 94 xp bouncing

Bill's right... the Worx Sponsons did scrub about 1/2 mph off my top end, but the increased handling was way worth it. The sponsons make a world of difference. ...Note that I have a 93 xp which had no sponsons at all. At WOT the boat's ride was unpredictable. I had to keep moving back and forth on the seat to stabilize it. 40 and below it was fine, but 46/47 it was a different story.

                    Re: 94 xp bouncing

Nope... no stock sponsons on the 93xp. I had to drill holes for the Worx I installed. ...I heard there was a recall and seadoo retro fit some sponsons on later. Unfortunately the first owner of my ski never took it in.

Instead of sponsons there were Bombarier (sp) decals there.

                        Re: 94 xp bouncing

I stand corrected. In 1994, the production XP got sponsons. Although my 1993 was a later production model 1993 and had some cheezy little sponsons on it.

I got the boats from Sea Doo Racing. They had a few minor differences than the production models, usually whatever they were going to introduce the next year.

                          Re: 94 xp bouncing

                          Hi Guys,

I have a 95 XP 720, rebuilt the motor and really pleased with it.

However, in rough sea I struggle to keep water supplied to the pump, resulting in loss of speed.

I was thinking of buying a Worx intake grate to help pick up, but am wondering if this is the right place to start?

The sea here is mainly rough, but last weekend it was fairly calm and a few flat out runs resulted in a perfectly smooth plane and 7,000rpm all the way. So the ski is fine, just want more traction in chop.

                          Cheers for any advice!!

                          Lloyd
