  • Freeze damage

My Sea Doo dealer pointed out that our '96 110 hp Sea Doo Challenger had previous freeze damage. Apparently the outer jacket had bulged and a slight crack as a result of the engine not being completely drained by the previous owner.

The shop said the crack had been ground down and filled. He felt that if the epoxy used to fill the crack was holding, he wouldn't recommend doing anything with the block, and if the leak was an issue or got worse, then we could then address it. Does this sound logical? This is our first jet boat experience.
    Thanks.

    Re: Freeze damage

It all depends on where the damage is and how well it was repaired. Epoxy can hold just fine in some areas when applied correctly. How long have you run it?

      Re: Freeze damage

somthing to consider is pulling the head to check for sand . the biggest reasion i tell everyone to run antifrezze though there motors is becouse if you have a blockage of sand or anything that does not let the motor drain you will frezze and crack . your motor can run fine and not over heat with the drain blocked but it will hold water . your motor could have been clean and fixed but you will not know unless you pull the head and look . if you cant pull the head your self then ask the dealer what it would cost to look for you . it should not be more then 1/2 labor to pull the head and replace it . most of the time there no parts needed at most a few Orings . you can then deside to have the cyls repaired right or find a set on ebay and freshin up your topend .

Or you could just remove the 8mm clear plastic hose at the rear of the ski where it goes overboard and backflush the drain line with water or compressed air.....

Bill that wont clear out sand if the block is filled , i find that the case in many motors that freeze and crack . the sand holds enough water to crack the cyls over the winter .
