  • 94XP can't restart,funny sound

    Ride for 2min then suddenly freeze,restart again,funny sound Tak..Tak..Tak..seem like flywheel losing contact...
    Carb check,ok.I open cyl head seem quite dry,when I PTO turn everytime Tak..Tak..sound.Suspect starter gear losing contact....any susgestion?
    Will Rotary Valve cause this problem?

    if it sounds like a ratchit then your rotory gear has striped , prob due to a crank failure or upper bearing letting go and sticking the rotory valve . somtimes if you look into the big oil lines you will see brass shavings , if you do your gear is shot . hope for the best and it could be your starter .

      If you ride for two minutes and then it shuts off, I doubt you have a starter problem. If the engine makes a tac tac tac sound, something is broken insiode your motor. All of those rotary valve motors make a clacking sound if you rock the pto back and forth.

      I'd bet you need a rebuilt engine....... Unless your pump is siezing up. Have you checked the pump oil lately?

        I found a flame arrestor screw fall into intake manifold.As picture shown slightly damage,the cyl head condition like this ok?someone told me need to rebore...

        Will completely take out & turn over the engine for inspection tomorrow...

          if you got lucky just your rotory gear striped , a lot of times when the valve stops sudden it will walk the grear on the crank . when you do your inspection make sure its centered , if you need a crank you would be better off going with a sbt shortblock . the gear and shaft are expencive + crank+pistons+ machine work and gaskets .
