Here is my experience with the RAVE valves.... Start with the red adjuster flush with the black housing, turn the adjuster clockwise 1 to 1.5 rounds at the time and you will find the "sweet spot". By "sweet spot" I mean you will actually feel a difference in the way the ski accellerates down low and when you stab it while coasting. It will feel more torquey when you find the optimum spot. I usually find the optimal point to be between flush and 3 rounds down. Like has been said, it is up to you to find what you like and it will not hurt a thing to experiment with the exhaust RAVE valves. As for the waterbox RAVE, I usually remove it and hard jet mine with a Mikuni 150 but one to three turns from all the way down seems to do the job if you keep the valve, Just enough to keep things cool.

what do you mean"hard jet" does this improve performence? If so where would you get a mikuni 150.

            Thanks

By "hard jetting" I mean installing a Mikuni high speed jet in a fitting and plumbing it into the waterbox. You can also Hard jet the stock pipe on the 787 and re-route the water flow to the head. A hard jet kit for your boat could possibly be obtained through a vendor on this site. They could set you up with a good starting point and you could tune the water by using different jets to get the temperatures and the exhaust pulse signal just right. It is a difference you can see and feel in the 787 but you have to be conscious of blockages in the small jets by riding in clean water and keeping your temp sensor working. That is not a problem that occurs often but something to be conscious of. If a weed or pebble gets in the line it could be a problem if not cleaned out. I absolutely loved my pipe dry out kit on my 96 and 97 XP's, it was the best and most inexpensive power in a basically stock 787 with stock pipe. I liked the 150 in the waterbox however I do not remember what I used in the pipe chamber but I think it was a 125. I put a 120 in the stinger but you have to drill and tap the stinger for that jet fitting. A basic pipe dryout kit will cost you $20 (or at least my first one did) but all the parts can be bought at a good hardware store except the Mikuni Jets. A kit consists of jets, tapped 1/8 NPT x 1/4 barbed brass fittings and a 1/2 x 1/2 x 1/4 barbed T fitting for the Mag water line and some 1/4 line and ties. The basic kit does not contain the stinger mod but still works great. This is not for all jet skis but I know it will work and get your attention on a 787. Maybe Bill O'neal can help you with a kit........

To install the kit, all you have to do is remove the waterbox RAVE and install a jetted fitting and route the water line back to that fitting. In the pipe chamber you simply remove the existing fitting and replace it with the one that contains a jet, put the 1/2 x 1/2 x 1/4 T fitting in the mag end water line of the head to supply water to the chamber fitting. You do not have to do the stinger mod to get great results but it can help. The 1/4 line is the same type of small rubber water line that is on the engine now, you will need more of it to route everything. The 150 jet will be fine in the waterbox and start with a 125 in the chamber. you can make some 100 yard dashes and then splash water on the lower part of the pipe body. If the water sizzles, put in a bigger jet by 5 step increments till it doesn't sizzle on the next run and reverse the procedure if it isn't hot enuff. You want it just before sizzling. Also retune your fuel on the low and high speed screws. This can net an increase in top speed and a nice bottom end increase when you are done. If you are not a tuner then just back out on the highs about 1/8 turn and see if you get an RPM increase or decrease and then tune in the appropriate direction.
