Should be fine. Jumping is putting the batties in parellel and adding their currents, which would be more aggesive than what you are trying to do.

Any 12V battery is fine. The problem is when you jump from a running car (14+V).

Bolt in a correct battery and don't risk chance of spark killing you.

so it really has nothing to do with the CURRENT capacity of the car battery (cranking amps) ? I would imagine that the load of a ski starter is nothing compared to a car starter.

Re: use of a car battery to start ski

Amps are drawn, not pushed. The draw of either type of starter is similar. You cannot have a battery with too many rated CCA.

Electrically it will work just fine. In fact, it may spin the starter better because it will have more CCA's than the normal PWC battery. Physically working may be another matter. You will want good tight connections at the terminals and those wires may be kinda short. The battery will need to be upright and secure. You don't want it on it's side or loose in the hull when you start the engine. If you plan to use the car battery while you ride the ski then you need to be sure it is very secure in the hull. If the battery you plan to use is not a sealed battery then you may want to rethink your plan.

                            Dave:
I'm only gonna use this battery to try to start a newly rebuilt 720 engine. Once I do that ,I'll use the regular battery to run it in the water.
                            Thanks for your input.

Once again - current is drawn NOT pushed. A 200 CCA battery will spin it exactly the same as a 1000 CCA battery so long as the draw of the starter is below 200 (which they are).
