1997.5 carb mounts with accellerator pump in the front, 1998 plus models, the accellerator pump end of the carbs is at the rear of the carbs, away from the mag housing/ front of the boat.

You also do not need to connect any hoses to the little fittings on the diaphram covers that came with the 1997.5 GSXL..

      Re: Jetting a 951 1998 GTXL

I just looked at the carbs again and I hope that I will not have to remove the throttle shaft and reverse that. That is what got me in this situation to begin with. Can I just leave the setup as is as hope that the throttle cable reaches?? I am scared to try to remove the 2 screws on the butterfly valve because I know they are crimped on and when I tried that on my last carbs I figured I would cut the shafts out and buy new ones. Well at that point I found out they do not sell a replacement shaft assembly and that forced me to get these carbs.

You do not need to reverse anything on the carbs.

Bill, for some reason I can not find a set of jets locally so I would like to purchase them from you, for your help. Do you have them?? If so what do I need to do to buy them? I would like to get them by Fri.

Do you want to keep the oem air box?

Bill, I meant to ask you when I ordered the jets from you, what should my pop off pressure be with everything stock and what should I turn my high-low speed screws out to??

                    Re: Jetting a 951 1998 GTXL

                    Rich,
Set the highs and lows to the oem specs of around 1.50 turns out for the low speed adjusters and zero turns out for the high speed adjusters. That is zero from closed ( completely closed).

Low speed adjustments can be made to improve idling mixture. If it is very rich at idle, close the needles a small amount. Just do an accelleration test when you finish adjusting the lows to see if it accellerates good without a bog or a hesitation when you hit the throttle.

The main jets provide enough fuel without opening the high speed adjusters at all.

Bill, it looks like I need to change the throttle shaft on my carbs, I know that Mikuni does not make a aftermarket shaft. Do you happen to have some laying around you could sell me???

No, I do not have any good used throttle shafts for "I" series carbs.
