adding trim

Im going to be riding is some very ruff water this summer and was told that if you use trim correctly that will help your ride. I have already done sponsons and are working on ride plate. My question is, I know that I must buy the motor,housing, gauge,trim controller and nozzle. I also know that VTS must be plugged into your MPEM and I was wondering if my GTX MPEM(97') has the plug for the VTS? And what other things must I change to get this to work?
