fuel sending unit

My sending unit has had to replaced twice now. I read somewhere on these forums that they can be fixed by cutting a hole in the baffle up top to jump the fuse. Has anybody done that. I did an ohm test and jumping the fuse and it appears that that is where the problem is. Everything else ohms out fine. Now I soldered a piece of copper wire bypassing the bad fuse. Now everthing works like it should.
Any comments.

let us know if it melts and it blows up :-) other then that sounds like ya fixed it .
