  • GTI leaking

I have a 97 gti....I noticed on Sunday I had more water in the bottom of my hull than normal. So much that it was level with the bottom of the motor. I took it back out today to see if I could find the leak and I spotted a steady trickle of water coming form where the stearing cable exits the rear of the ski. I am not sure if this is enough to cause that much water but it is the only leak I could find. I saw no leaks coming from the carbon seal while the motor was off or idleing(which was the 1st thing that came to mind).

    My question(s) are
    1. Is there a way to tighten the through hull fitting for the stearing cable.
    2. Is it possible for the carbon ring to leak at higher speeds when I am not able to visualy monitor it.
    3. My bailers are not clogged up but I would think they would have removed most of the water. All bailers tubes are attached and in the proper position.

One other side note.... I was able to tighten the 4 bolts that run through the rear of the hull almost 1/2 turn....seems they were a bit loose...will this tighten up the stearing cable leak or not?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

    Re: GTI leaking

you might want to put some sealer around the cables then tighin them up { back off the nut and reseal the cable .

      Re: GTI leaking

I tried to tighten the stearing cable lock (on the outside) but couldnt get a wrench on it or leverage to tighten it so I just used marine silicon and sealed around the stearing cable fitting on the inside of the hull.
