  • oil shelf life

this might be an ignorant question but does sea doo 2-stroke oil have a shelf life? i bought my skis last year and the old owner gave me a gallon of oil with them. so i figure this oil is at least a year and a half old. its been stored in my garage but it still heats up to over 100 degrees in there. can i use this oil or am i better off buying some new stuff?

It does have a shelf life, and under those circumstances I would not risk it - get a new jug.

what if you have oil left over in your tank from the prior season?
The ski has been sitting all winter in the garage.

Oil from the prior season should b fine.

I don't have any hard numbers, but I have seen old oil get gunky and look like it's separating. I've seen it in jugs, and in old skis. I can only recommend what I would personally do.

Actually, you are probably better off with the heat in the garage than freezing cold of winter. I would think that 100 degrees is not going to hurt your oil at all.

But, for the price of a jug of oil, why are we having this conversation? When in doubt, toss it.

buy new for the tank and use the old for some added protection in the fuel tank { 100to1 mix will never hurt } along with your inj oil
