Re: I got water coming out of my spark plug holes!!!

i have saved engines that have been sunk and left for weeks , most have been saved and have run for yrs with np . when you get it running you will know if its ok or not , just make sure you run extra oil in the fuel tank .

the proper way of saving a sunk engine is get it running within a few min of getting the water out . but not everyone does that .

There are a lot of variables, Chris. A fresh-water sunk ski that was left FULL of water is the best thing. As you know it takes exposure to air to start rusting, which happens if they try to get the water out and fail - THEN leave it to sit. With salt water, it doesn't matter if it's full or not, any ski that sits with any salt water is toast in no-time.

i deal with all saltwater damage everyday for the past 20 yrs from boats to skis . i see everything from sinkers that just sunk to sinkers that sunk weeks ago to yrs ago . i just dont like seenin people post ITS TOAST on someones first post that they got water in the engine .ive seen it a lot on all the fourms . i would hate to see somone just give up trying to get the engine running and spend 2k on having it replaced when they could have saved the engine .

You will want to find the source of your leak i.e carbon ring ,did you forget to put your plugs in or possibly a cooling hose cracked or came off the hull dosn't fill up with water for no reason.

BTW when i say plugs i mean the drain plugs at the back of the ski. when they fill with water they get very unstable not from having two up on the ski and you may not feel the weight until you stop which is why you fliped over not a balance issue.

Correction no carbon ring on that model i belive just a thru hull fitting and seals.

Re: I got water coming out of my spark plug holes!!!

I couldn't tip the whole ski on the trailer so i took the motor out and tipped to motor. A lot more water drained out. Before i did that, it wouldnt turn over because the compression was to high as someone said on here before. It now cranks and spins freely but wont turn over. With new spark plugs the spark seems to be less than what i had before. any suggestions on that. i think im close to getting this running again.

Make sure there is no water in your mpem and your mag housing.those areas need to be dry and corrosion free.check your battery voltage first to make sure you didn't drain it from turning it over to pump the water out.

Well it finally fired up. I'm going to take it out tommarow and really run it. So if i do flip, I tip it to one side and thats it? Thanks to everyone for the help.

If you flip it over get in the back of the ski and look which way it says to flip it that will be the only way to keep more water getting into the system and going through this all again.

Yes if you have your engine running you better hope it doesnt take you long by the time you fall off and get back to the ski and get ready to flip it the motor is going to have fried the pump assembly so you will be swimming it back in.

What ? Fry the pump? Where did that come from? If he falls off, the tether cord will stop the motor 9 times out of ten. But even if it did not stop the motor, how can you fry a pump because the motor is still running ? Maybe if he stopped for lunch and left it running out of the water?

The way it read to me was he was not holding the lanyard and would let the ski run off and be running upside down. Is it not so that they tell you not to run your ski out of water more than a minute or two at a time? Im asking here as this would lead me to believe that if he fell off his ski that he would have to chase it down then get it flipped hence a long time back to the ski and messing up the pump or wear ring more exactly. Maybe I should have said wear ring rather than pump itself.
