  • 97 GTI intake grate question

Hi. I notice my project gti has a broken intake grate, I see the 2 bolts at the front to hold it on, what holds the back up? Mine is missing. I just see some plastic molded plating at the back, with no broken parts. ??

I removed the engine for repair. I also notice the driveshaft can be moved up and down about 1/2 inch, is this normal? Everything looks okay.

    Thanks, Joe

Re: 97 GTI intake grate question

Without support of the PTO, the driveshaft will move around, no problem.

The plastic "ride shoe" is what the rear of the grate attaches to. It is susposed to have 2 brass bushings with threaded holes to attach the grate. When the grate id ripped from the ski, it often takes the bolts and the bushings with it.

To fix it, you will need to install a new ride shoe with bushings in it to attach the grate.
