  • Tach problem

My Tach started doing 360's. I tapped on it and it worked for awhile. Is there a way to fix it or is it time for a new one.
Second problem- My air cleaner has oil in it. I looked at the oil pump and it is lined up. The cable were not off on this motor.

      Re: Tach problem

That was a good thought, but I cleaned the air cleaner out then ran the boat. I rebuilt the carbs on the other engine and reset all of the cables and oil pump. It is fine. This motor seems to smoke more and I get some oil in the air cleaner. As I said, the pump seems to be lined up.
Thanks for the info, I'll order a new tach.

You may have too much rotary valve clearence and getting some blowback up the carbs. Run it with the cover off and see if you are gitting a spray of fuel and oil up into the airbox. It won't hurt anything but it is a sign of wear.
