  • 951 squish clearance

Hi, I have a 98 gsx ltd (silver motor) that is bored 1mm over. & the cylinder head was not machined. what squish clearance should I be looking for to get best performance & reliabilty. Should i get the head squish bands cut to match the larger bore?

    Thanks

Yes you need them cut out for the new diameter, you don't need to change the clearance.

Stock is usually around 0.065" - 0.075" but it makes no difference on a stock ski from 0.060" - 0.100".

.070 is a good safe number that will not hurt your performance.

Bill do you recommend getting the head cut to match the 1mm over bore?

Measure it. If the squish band outer diameter is less than 89mm, then yes. You had better clearance the rave valves too.
