  • '97 xp800 - New starter 9 teeth not 8?

Hi, did a few searches and didn't find anything difinitive on the subject. I just ordered a new starter for my ski and it has a 9 tooth bendix on it. The guy told me it would work, even though my original (8 years old!) had eight teeth. Is he correct? Thanks in advance! Jonathan.

      Thanks tech support!

But, you mean high speed? Nine teeth & a larger diameter pinion would point to it being lower torque & higher speed. Eight teeth I'd think would be higher torque and slower final drive rpms.

I would deduce this starter will work harder but spin the engine faster?

Actually, the oem made it so the higher compression /larger bore motors would turn over easier without burning up the brushes. We had a real problem with that back in 1995-1996.
