  • 97 gtx 5a fuse blowing

every time battery is connected the 5a fuse blows. all components are dry. i unpluged the black/yellow wire just below the 5a fuse at a bundle plug just before it goes into the steering column. it is possible this is the start/stop button, or kill switch, or what ever the third wire goes to. should i start by replacing the start stop. or is there something else i should do.. thanks

get an ohm meter or circuit tester and start looking at your wires for a short somewhere most likely in your stator somewhere

It will not be a start stop switch or a tether problem.

It will probably be the mpem that needs replacing.

          i second the mpem..
the 5amp is the main fuse and it wont hurt to swap with a good one to see if the problem goes away..
get any 787 mpem-gray box and try it.. you of course need the programmed key as well

If you swap MPEM's with a known to be good MPEM out of another 1997 GTX, and it still blows the fuse, remove the magneto cover and fix whatever is broken in there.
