  • SP overheating...HELP!

i recently redid the thru hull fitting on my 94 SP(thanks for
the guidance from this forum).today i put it in lake erie for
a shakedown cruise and it overheated in about 5 minutes.

it was not a sensor problem,it melted hoses.the clear hoses
to the rear squirt holes seemed to have water in them, but i
don't know if the bigger rubber ones did.also,i started it for
a second on the trailer but it did not blow out any water.

P.S. the thru hull fitting seems to be working,no water in the
    bottom of the hull,and i didn't sink.

Did you have water getting into the hull?
Did you reconnect the main water feed hose to the pump fitting after you put the pump back into the hull?
Is that line cleared of sand or debris?
Did you somewhow break the plastic fitting that the main waterline connects to at the pump? Or possibly clog it up somehow ?

Connect the garden hose to the engine water outlet line using a pincher to pinch off the line behind the flush fitting. Start the motor and turn on the garden hose. Look for leaks and see if water is pouring out of the jet pump nozzel, indicating that the lines are clear of sand and debris.

i just came in from checking it,there was a small clog in the

5/8 inch hose at the exhaust port at the rear,by the tunnel.
how much pressure does this thing create?it didn't seem to
take much to clear it.is that port coming in or going out?
there is a flush kit fitting installed in the middle of that hose,
with a plastic cap over it,it comes off easy,so there much
not be much pressure.i took the other hose off and blew into
it,i could hear air bubbling through water,so there was some
water in the block or manifold, but not much.

Well if it was clogged up, then not much water could pass through the engine and that would make the water boil in the head and probably cause a steam induced water lock in the motor.
Clean out all of the lines and try running it again in a lake. You can do it with the ski strapped onto the trailer so you can see everthing in case you have a water leak or something in an overheated hose.

          Re: SP overheating...HELP!

If its a salt water ski, the white plastic fitting that screws into the ex. outlet gets corrosion around it, squeezing the ID down until not enough water can be dumped out of the engine, resulting in overheat.

          Something to look for.

            hi

i went back to lake erie today, and took the advice about staying
on the trailer.i had good streams of water coming out of both
weep holes behind the seat.i ran it for about ten minutes and no
            overheating.YEAH!!

a couple of things i noticed, though.at high RPM once it was warmed
up it started to break up a little, just tiny little hiccups here and there,
without bogging or falling off.almost like valves floating on an overhead
            valve motor.

the other was hard starting.after a little snooping i noticed the primer
and hoses are shot.i replaced the hoses but still no squirt, and the primer
knob is a little stiff.i couldn't get it loose from the dashboard,i don't have
the right wrench.i may just live without it for awhile,i'm taking it on
vacation in a week and don't think i can get parts in time.it starts easy
once it's warm,so i'll be okay out on the water,i'll just take a little longer
at the dock in the morning.
