96 xp will not start need help!

Took it out to the river and it started but then it killed. Went to start it again but all it did was click when I press the start button.

Put new battery in and starter solenoid but still does the same thing.
Anyone have the same problem or have an idea what it could be?

did you check the fuses and did you jump the solenoid first before replacing it it may be your starter not the solenoid

fuses are good and no i didn't check the soleniod before i replaced it and is there a way to see if the starter is bad and how do you jump the solenoid?

touch the post on the soleniod to see if the starter is good , i would guess if it started then died and nothen after that you have a bad ground cable , try using a jumper from the neg on the battery to the block .
