I know that you can check to see if the speed sensor is operational. Is there a way to check the speedometer?

    Re: faulty speedometer

How do you test the speedometer sensor. I have a 1996 GTX. Both digital and mechanical speedometers stopped working at the same time. The mechanical speedometer was bouncing before it quit all together. Is the sensor the little star wheel in the back that spins, or is it on the inside ?

      Re: faulty speedometer

It's just the magnetic wheel. If it's spinning then the pickup is dead - you have to get a whole new unit from a dealer if you really want it (by why would you want such an inaccurate gauge in the first place?).

Where is this pickup located. Inside of outside. I know they are not accurate but like everything to work that it came with. Can you provide a website or a diagram, so I know what im looking for.

I think the only thing you can buy is parts, The star looking wheel is like 35 dollars, I been wanting to fix mine 97 gtx, I think just replace the star wheel and should make work better. Is the magnets in the star wheel????
