  • 1990 SP water leaking

I have a yellow 587 in a 90 SP. Water has started leaking pretty bad into the hull. I have narrowed it down to the area above the starter. I searched the internet for this part and believe that it is called the waterjacket side plate. There is a 90 degree elbow which feels like it is threaded (can't see, only feel) into the side of this plate. It feels like water is coming from this area.
Does the elbow thread off of the plate?
Has anyone ever seen this area leak?
Thanks for your help in advance,
    Tom

Sounds like it is the same as an '89, the housing has a 1/2" nipple cast into it facing forward and a 90 degree 1/4" plastic barb that threads into it facing rearward. The 1/2 hose goes to the pipe and the 1/4" runs back to the exhaust outlet at the rear. There is also another 1/2" hose right above in the bottom of the exhaust manifold running rearward to the top of the pump.

In 1990, on the yellow motor, they changed from a cast aluminum waterjacket to a plastic tube-like fitting the bolts to the side of the motor.
