  • 96 GTX sea doo piston damage

Need info, here are some pics of my 96 GTX seadoos piston after 8 hrs of use. This was a new SBT motor installed by sea doo dealer. What happened? Noticed top end speed falling off before it did this. Machine still turned over. I was 3 weeks over the 1 year warrenty.Attached are a few pics of piston. Both pistons look the same way.Hopeing to replace only top end bottom end looks ok. flushed out with oil feels ok.Had a new oil pump installed when motor was installed. :emoticonc

My guess is that you will find clogged up fuel filters inside of the carbs.
But this could also happen if the fuel selector valve is clogged up or a fuel line has a loose clamp and is sucking air into the fuel line.

Was oil lines and pump purged of air?

      Has water gotten in?

I `am not sure if air was purged, sea doo dealer did the work. Far as i know it didnt see water, there could have been a leak in one of the water jackets but both cylinders were damaged the same way... piston. I though piston would clean itself up if alot of water got to it.....just dont wanna put it together agin and get the same problem. Bill may be on the right track with the fuel issue...it wasnt running quit right. thanks for the imput guys

Lean is the first place to look. The only reason I was thinking otherwise was the heavy sieze marks opposite the ex port. The pistons *I* have lean siezed show the sieze on the ex port side and either nothing on the intake side or just like a 4 corner.

With the damage on both pistons, a water intrusion from the head would be very unlikely. Dont know if the 787's could spray water and enter like the 951's did.

its 100% not a SBT failure , like bill said . look in the carbs and also the fuel valve . i cant remember the last time somone asked why the knob dont turn , i tell them its froze and most tell me they dont know what its for lol . ive seen a lot of yamaha pistons this yr with the same look . i think the yrs of people { and dealers } who dont know how to fog them is talking the toll due to dirty carbs .
