I recently purchased a 1998 SeaDoo GTX-RFI jet ski. I have the original users guide supplement and it indicates that I am to use Bombardier Rotax Injection Oil in the machine. I also obtained a CD with technical data in a shop manual. That indicates using Formula XP-S (synthetic) oil. The machine has oil in it that came with it but I do not know which type it is. All I do know is that it is from SeaDoo. I think that it may be green in color. I have been told that if it has been using synthetic, then I should not put the other type in as that might mess up the engine. If it did have the regular oil in it, would adding the synthetic to that cause similar problems? Do you know which oil is the correct one for this model? It has a 781.6 cc engine with fuel injection and rotary valve. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Ken

Re: 1998 SeaDoo GTX-RFI oil choice????
If the previous owner had Bombarder oil, you will have no problems mixing in a different oil. In almost all cases there will be no problems mixing different oils.

Re: 1998 SeaDoo GTX-RFI oil choice????
Thank you for the information. I am new to the SeaDoo machines. I have seen conflicting comments about mixing oils. I want to use what will work best but do not want to spend extra money needlessly. Do you use Bombardier synthetic oil? If so, do you recall what color it is. That may give me a clue as to what is currently in the machine. Thanks again for your help. Ken

Re: 1998 SeaDoo GTX-RFI oil choice????
I havent used the bomb xps oil since late 98, so I dont know on the color. I have been using Torco GP-7, excellent oil, very clean raves and minimal wear. It isnt a cheap replacement for XPS, but certainly a better one.Being ignorant, is not so much ashame as being unwilling to learn. Benjamin Franklin

Re: 1998 SeaDoo GTX-RFI oil choice????
The XPS Synthetic oil in the yellow jug is brown. The former owner of my '98 XPL had some green oil in the tank that clogged up the oil injection jets (top end rebuild in progress). The oil lines had a blue-green slime on the inside that partially blocked the flow. I have cleaned out the jets and tank and replaced the oil lines. I will always use the oil injection with the factory recommended oil.
