Speedometer on an SPX?

    Speedometer on an SPX?

    Hey guys I was thinking of putting a 96 XP hood on my 95 SPX and I was wondering since the XP hood has a spot for the Fuel Gauge and one for a Speedometer would the Speedometer work on my SPX and if so where would I have to plug it into?

    You need the rideplate with the cut-out for the speedometer sending unit and the sending unit and the speedo guage to complete the system. You cannot just "plug in" the speedo guage.

      Ok, thanks Bill that answere's my question. I figured there would be more to that than just plugging it in.

      Off the top of your head do you know how much a new or used sending unit would be? Would I be able to use an aftermarket ride plate for the XP or would I have to buy a stock one for the XP? I would think the aftermarket ride plates would be designed to accomodate the speedometer sending unit as well.

        Have you looked at your ride plate? Some have a speedo sending unit block off plate in them that can be removed so you can install the sending unit.

        I recently sold a used sender for $30.00

          No I haven't looked yet. Didn't think about adding it until this morning on the way to work, I just thought about it. I will check and see. There is a entire speedometer kit on ebay so maybe I will check into that.

          Is there already a place in the MPEM to connect the wires to?

            The sensor has three wires that go directly to the speedo guage. The guage gets power and ground from the same source as the other guages as they are series wired.
