  • 96 XP battery? and ? about fron wire harness's

I have a 96 XP, and just got all the parts yesterday and rebuilt the rear electrical box. My battery was dead, so I pulled the lawn tractor battery out and used that. When I hooked it up, it didn't spark (so no shorts). When I put the laynard on nothing happened, no beeps, no nothing. So I opened the MPEM box up front, all the fuses are fine, and it was bone dry in there, looked new. I noticed up front that quite a few of the harness's up there were unplugged.

Is there a method to the mayhem of harness's up front? Like all the wire colors match? Or there is only one connecter that will fit each other (keyed to each other).

And second, I'm going to wallyworld tonight to pick up a battery. What is the size that I need? I don't want an expensive battery for now. I'm not sure this ski even runs yet. Once I can get it running I will get a gel cell and use this walmart battery as a spare to bring with me on riding days.

All of the harness connectors are color coded in the sense that if you find 2 four wire connectors and each has a brown, black, purple and white wire in them, then plug them together. Same goes for the rest of them. This is just a "for instance" and not a detailed set of instructions.

I found out that the engine plug wasn't connected. Connected that and now I get the beeps and the starter clicks.

Apparently I have a frozen enging. The starter just makes one loud click, and I can't budge the driveshaft. So I'm guessing i have to pop of the head, and have at it with a rubber mallet.

          Great.

Yeah a hammer will fix anthing......... LOL!

If you do get it broke loose and turning, you will soon blow a hole in the side of the motor or break some bearings doing expensive damage to the engine cases and head. Replace the motor now and save a few hundred dollars.

Why replace? Couldn't I just rebuild it?

If you can rebuild it for less than buying an SBT motor, more power to you. But, convience and a years warranty go along way to making this experence less painfull.

Rubber mallet, to be exact. I read the other post where someone did the same thing and his is running fine.

                    How much is a new motor? It's a 96 XP 781 CC's

the ski was running about 30 days ago. You think she's rusted that bad?

                        $799 is the complete motor?

Click on SBT products for pricing and descriptions.

It takes about 8 hours for water to damage bearings. Evidently, 30 days was enough to make your pistons ( and maybe the crankshaft) to rust so bad that you cannot turn the motor with the leverage created by a starter motor on a big flywheel gear. That should be a pretty good indication that it was long enough to rust up some internal engine parts. From here on out, running your motor is a total crap shoot. Who knows, you may get lucky ?? How lucky do you feel??

what is the difference with the premimum and standard engines? As far as working with my current MPEM and exhuast and such. Is the Premimum engine compatible with everything I have (exhuast and such).

Same motor with an extended warranty period is the main difference.
