  • Locations of Hull ID 1997 Sea-Doo GTX

I own a pair of 97 GTX's. Both have neither the HIN tabs on the rear
step or the decals on the right rear transom. The owner had registrations
and titles which I easily transferred.

I need to confirm the actual HIN with the ones on the registrations.

Is there a hidden HIN? I have heard there is one under the gas tank,
but before I remove the tank I want to be sure I'm looking in the right
place. That's a lot of work.

I bought these last year without any thought of the HIN's missing.
Now they are both broke and I can't get them repaired.

Maybe someone knows differently, but I do not think they have a 2nd plate.

I have two 97 GTX's that are dead. I would really like to get them fixed.

My problem is the Hull Identification Numbers are missing. I innocently
purchased them this way. Now I have to prove they are legal or "hot".

If they are legal I can get a local service shop to repair them if not I am
going back to the person I purchased them from.

      from the USCG regulations.

Boats manufactured or imported on or after August 1, 1984, also have a duplicate secondary HIN affixed somewhere on an unexposed location inside the boat or beneath a fitting or item of hardware. The purpose is to help authorities identify your boat if a thief or vandals remove or damage the primary HIN on the transom. It is illegal for anyone (manufacturer, dealer, distributor, or owner) to alter or remove a HIN without the express written authorization of the Commandant, U.S. Coast Guard.

PWCs are exempt from many 'boat' regulations.

Yeah, they have two ID plates. Mounted somewhere in the inner hull bottom. Usually under or near the gas tank or the battery.

I know you have sea doo's but as info on some kawasaki's there is a duplicate hin under the battery. There is usually a rubber battery pad, if you lift it the vin is there.
