  • Replacing bent drive shaft

I am replacing a bent drive shaft on a 99 gsx rfi. I have it apart and will order a new shaft today. Is there anything else I should check and or replace while I have it apart? The pump clearances with the impellor looks good and the it spins without and odd noises.

Without seeing it, I cannot think of anything else you may need.

All the rubber seals, and o rings look good. The splines are all good. What kind of grease is used at the splines?

      Thanks

DO YOU KNOW IF THE SHAFT IS SUPPOSE TO VIBRATE A LITTLE OUT OF WATER. I FOUND A ROPE LODGE INSIDE THE SHAFT.

No movement. The shaft needs to run straight and true. Otherwise you risk damage to jet, crankshaft and other items.

I do not know what "viberate a little" means to you. If you can feel it shaking the ski, it is too much viberation.

The true home test of a driveshaft is to roll it across something flat and see if it wobbles.

Is It Very Exspensive To Replace The Rod......the Rod Does Wobble A Little.

                    Re: Replacing bent drive shaft

Can I Change It Myself.. So There Shouldnt Be No Wobble Out Of The Water When It Turned On. If The Motor Vibrates Would It Cause The Drive Shaft To Vibrate. When I Put It Back In The Water It Runs Fine No Vibration.

Don't sweat it if when riding the ski it does not viberate.

On Mine you could visibly see the wobble. took it out and rolled it it was definately bent. You could not feel it while riding in the water. But you would suck air through the carbon seal whenever you took off. I can't imagine any wobble is good. SBT has the driveshaft fot $137.00

That is why you need to do the "roll test".

You said wobble, he said viberates, I have no idea how much his viberations resemble your wobbles....... LOL!
