  • Jet Pump Replacement

I am in the process of putting a new jet pump on my 1990 Seadoo. Assembled it with the thrust washer and bearing. Put on the nosecone and added the Seadoo oil. Spun it by hand for a while and left it on the bench ovenight to check for leaks. Now I notice a little play in the impeller shaft assembly. Maybe 1/16" or less. Is this normal? How much play should it have?

Check for leaks by using a pressure test. I got mine from Bill O'neal. Is the movement laterally that would be very bad. if it is up down it doesn't sound good. Maximum radial play is .002 inches.

The movement is along the axis of the shaft. Should I build it up by shimming the thrust washer?

Yes it is normal play that if you do not have, you will ruin the pump thrust bearing and eventually the pump itself.

Alway check for end to end play after installing the cone. If the impellor will not move back and forth, you assembled the impellor shaft thrust bearing offset (not centered) and pinched it. You must have endplay when fully assembled.
