  • 95 GTX problems

I have a 95 GTX with unknown hours that I acquired last fall. First problem was the thing had been sunk and the electrical box was flooded causing the ECU (?) to fry itself (the starter stayed in the run position and it had no spark) so I replaced the ECU/ignitor/starter signal black box and the starter solenoid and it started up and ran fine after bypassing the fuel vavle (both sides terminally clogged) ran it for several hours towing kids on tubes after 3-4 hours of total run time it started to just shut off at full throttle, like you had pulled the plug wire off. It would start up almost immediately and run again until full throttle was achieved then die again. Ski was out of the water for 2 weeks and then put back in last weekend and everythign was fine for about 1-2 hours then same problem, but worse until it will now no longer even start! When you push the start button now all I get is lights on the dash and a constant beep! Oh and the water temp light started coming on right as this came too an end, I pulle dthe seat and could put my hand on the cylinder head so I don't think it is actually overheating.
Any clues? I checked the cylinder head temp sending unit and it tests OK.

    Please help

Oh and the stupid thing fills up with water the longer you ride it, siphons work fine but are unable to keep up with the incoming water where is the water coming from? Do I have a cooling hose leaking or WTF?!?!

    Re: 95 GTX problems

Sounds like it is mechanically in poor condition. How much compression does it have?

I would start by removing the motor and take a good look into the magneto area, as it was probably flooded with water too.

The new starter motor you installed may have gotten rusty again too with all that water in the hull. The driveshaft seal is probably leaking.

No new starter motor. Starter is fine when it runs it runs great! It's only an electrical problem that I'm trying to hunt down. What does the beep (solid about 2-3 seconds) mean when I press the start button down?

I think you will find your problem in the wiring or possibly in the magneto housing.

OK, I pulled the "engine codes" by pressing the start button 5 times with the lanyard offf and it beeps and lights up the coolant light

          What next?

            Re: 95 GTX problems

The sequence of long and /or short beeps is the code to use to troubleshoot. "it beeps" tells us nothing.

one long beep after the 5 quick start button pressings then connecting the safety lanyard I get 2 short beeps with the temp light alternately with the low fuel light

I just realized this is a 1995 GTX model. In 1996 they went to a DESS system with codes on GTX's..
