  • HX Question

    Hi Guys, :emoticonb

Just bought a 96 HX. Have not had a chance to take it out yet, just reading through the manual and have one (silly) question....

In the manual, it states that it has a choke, and indeed on the ski, there is a diagram for the choke operation, but no actual choke. Where the choke should be, there is a carbon fibre type blank (to block off the hole). It has a primer button on the hull (by where your legs go). Did these come standard like this, or is this a mod that has been done later?

If it is a mod that has been done, what are the advantages of having to prime rather than use a choke?

    Thanks :emoticont

    Re: HX Question

I have a 95 HX and it has a chock lever on the dash where the lanyard plugs in. I think the primer might be aftermarket.

        Re: HX Question

yep mine also has a choke and no primer...choke seems to work fine for me, but I am sure the primer will also.

          Re: HX Question

I prefer the primer... Either one will work fine for you though. They both do close to the same thing, get the carbs primed with fuel.

              Re: HX Question

digger - hope you enjoy the hx, still one of the best rides out there. it is a common mod to add carb primer and remove the choke plates. on the hx, lots of people remove the fuel cut off switch and add the primer knob there, so if the primer knob is near your left leg, the fuel selector switch is removed and you have no "reserve". gas tank is not that big, so if ski has other mods the 7 gallon tank seems to go fast some days. if its real cold out, keep watch on tank - or fuel gauge if yours is lucky enough to have one.
primer - faster starts then waiting on choke to prime carbs, minute airflow improvement.

                Re: HX Question

Ok, the primer on mine is on the right hand side (off memory). So if I am reading the last post right, that means that there could be no aux tank? I had a look round to see if I could see the aux fuel tank, but could not find it. Where abouts is it located in the ski?
Just want to make sure I don't go relying on it only to find it's not there.

                Thanks

                  Re: HX Question

the aux swith is under the left side of the seat....bout where your knee would be. It is a big knob so chances are it has been removed if you have not seen it.

The aux switch is still there. I will get in tonight and have a good look to try find this AUX tank.

                      Re: HX Question

digger, there is no aux tank. the main tank has 2 line runnin from it, they both drop to different levels within the tank, the reserve line drops all the way to the bottom, and the main line goes about 3/4 of the way down into the tank.
