It's not that hard, just takes some practice, personally the side mount takes a lot of effort to get it right. In the begining I could get back on via that method but it would take most of my remaining energy and I'd have to take a break.
The trick is to go WOT throttle and get the ski to drag your body fully behind the ski, the boat will level out, and the nose will point upwards, you'll know when you got it right when there's hardly any water drag on your body, and you can use your knees on the rear of the ski and pull yourself up. Let up on the throttle when you're almost on, it'll stop the ski and your momentum will carry you forward..
After a few days practice I can reboard the ski from the rear pretty easily(watched some fat guy at the lake do it..hehehe..), and it saves a lot of energy.
Start the ski, then move to the back of the ski, using the handle under the seat use your knees to kneel on the stern and push the rear end down, (buy pulling on the handle and pushing with your knees)the nose will come out of the water, which makes it a little easier to balance with your knees, use your body weight to keep the ski upright. You should be in a kinda crouched postion on the back of the ski, Then with one quick motion lunge forward & up to grab the throttle WOT while still on your knees, (my stomach is on the seat, with my hands on the handle bars at this point, aka superman) once the ski gets moving stand up, let up on the thotttle a little to help yourself up, the key is to get the ski moving while you still have most of your body weight near the waterline, keeps the ski from tipping over. If you don't start the ski first you won't have enough time to install the key and then start it unless you're really blessed....:emoticons
I don't have a video but I've ridden my HX for about 6 or 7 years. I get on from the back. Put one hand on each side of back. Put my weight on my hands, the back sinks down a bit, put one knee on the back, then other foot, slide hands up the rub rails and do a quick walk up with feet in foot wells and hands going up the rub rails, stomach kinda sliding on seat, move hands to handle bars and sit real close to the front. Its not that hard. I've been out in Lake Michigan in pretty rough water and can get back on. Just be quick. It doesn't need to be running. If it is real rough and hard to balance, I'll push down the tether buttom with one hand and start the motor with the other. When the ski is idling you now have time to put the tether on. If you do it right the motor doesn't even kill.
I've tried the boarding on the side method but I think its easier to get on the back.
If you want to learn how to board a HX buy mine and I'll show you how :emoticont
ive had my hx for 3 years now, it takes a little gettig used to. now, i can sit on my ski while not running and balance, open hood while sitting on it , and i remount from side. plug in lanyard, put ur right elbow over seat while holding bars, start skiand gas it. the ski will pull you right out of the water. practice makes perfect. i ride mine ALOT, so im off and on alot. if i can get someone to video me, ill post it for u. have fun, its a great bike once u get used to it.
