  • '89 SP stuff in fuel filter

Thought I lucked out with not having crap in the fuel lines but this weekend I started loosing power. Took it out again yesterday and found this orange goo in the fuel filter/separator. It looked like RTV sealer but was very squishy not rubbery to the touch.

I know I have to clean the whole fuel system out but does anyone have an idea of what it is and where it might have come from?

It is old premix oil and gasoline that dried up in there during a long storage period.

      Update:
The two pickup fuel lines that dangle into the top of the fuel tank had deteriorated and the screened check valves broke off and fell into the tank. Thankfully there is enough ferrous metal in the stainless springs around the screens, I was able to retrieve them with a magnet. Without the screens on the pickups it sucked in a bunch of crap that I didn't realize was in the tank.

I blew out the fuel lines and installed new pickup lines and screen/check valves and new fuel valve switch (crap was also inside and it was getting harder to turn). Didn't get a chance to take it back to the lake yesterday but on the trailer she seem to be running well again.

It will be inside the carb too.

The little voice in my head was saying the same thing, looks like I'll be pulling the carb off today.
