  • 97 GTX Electrical problem??????Maybe

I just bought a 97 GTX Seadoo that has just had a new motor installed. I took it out today and noticed two things.

    1. After I hit the throttle and after about 25 MPH both the Tach and the Speedometer go to zero but Im still going. I also noticed the clock kept going back to 12:00 so as I watched the info gauge it would cut on and off as I rode (loose connection somewhere)?

    2. When I hit the start button it's hit and miss. Sometimes it just turns and then all of a sudden when I just hold down the start button there will be about 2 seconds of pause and then it cranks. I have to choke and hit the throttle to start it though. Once it start its ok.

You may need a solenoid or starter motor, but first check the grounding cables closely. They get corroded inside of the sheath if around salt water. If so, replace the cable. Same goes for the red cable to the starter motor.

Both of your problems are probably due to bad connections/corrosion of wires or connectors or fuse holders.

Fuses are located in both electrical boxes.

In a 97 GTX what number fuse should I be using? Currently both the front and rear box each have a 15amp fuse. Both of them were blown when I checked. I replaced them both and as soon as I hooked up the battery I blew the rear one again. Next I changed the fuse again and hooked the battery back up this time it took. This afternoon I took it down to the late again and all three gauges shut on and off as soon as you throttle and get to about 25mph.
