  • 97 Sea-Doo Sportster 720....Are they any good?

I have a chance to a buy a 97 Sportster 720. The boat looks like its in perfect shape. But I have no experience with jet boats. What is the general consensus on the Sportster? Is it durable? Is it under-powered? Is it a hole in the water that you throw money into?

Based on my HX experience, I don't think the 720 is Rotax's finest motor. I'd say its average. Not a lot of power. No exhaust valves. Dual 38 Mikunis seem to be adequate. Durability is average, maybe below average. I'm worried that this motor is not up to the task of pushing around a 4 passenger boat.

What do you guys think about the Sportster? And what would you say is a fair price for a '97?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I would pass on that if I were you - WAY overloaded powerplant. If you want a jetboat, get one with a 4 stroke or Merc V-6.
