96 GTI battery light stays on

It has a new battery but the light stays on.What could it be?Thanks

Probaly the regulator/rectifier gone south..

you can check the voltage comming out of the stator wires , if good then replace your rectifer . its easy 3 or 4 wires and a bolt .
