  • 97 GSX Engine Temp

I ride a 97 GSX. After an hour or so of riding my machine will die. It will briefly flash a high engine temp warning. It restarts and will run for anywhere from 1 min to a couple of hours and the same thing will happen again. Any suggestions as to what might be the problem ?

Rebuild the carbureators and replace the internal fuel filters inside the carbs. Also, make sure the fuel selector valve is clear in both positions, ON and RES.

        Re: 97 GSX Engine Temp

There is no head gasket on a 787 engine. The thing probably got hot because it was too lean. Even if it overheated, the ignition does not shut down on that model, it will only abruptly quit running when it gets so hot the piston sticks to the clyinder wall.
I would definetly rule out a carb problem before I started looking eleswhere. If it continues to overheat after checking the carbs, I'd be looking at the pump, wear ring and cooling hoses and fittings for a clog.

Read the technical articles here about rebuilding carbureators.
