  • '97 XP Broken Rave Valve ?

My '97 XP would only run at about 45 MPH (WFO) top speed and then would occaisonally accelerate to the normal 55+. I took out the Rave valves to clean and inspect and the forward valve was broken just above the O-ring - where it goes from round to flat. The plastic adjuster screw is mangled and the spring partially broke through the plastic top to the bellows. The round shoulder between the flat valve and round stem is broken away so it looks like it was slammed up into the RAVE housing as if the spring broke but it's intact. I've ordered my replacement parts but was wondering what could cause these valves to break? Based on the tye-wrap around the bottom of the bellows someone had been in there before me.

    Thanks - Pete

It just happens. Not too often, but we have seen this before. Buy new parts and replace the broken parts. The Rave valve casting probably had a fracture in it and it broke.
