  • 92 SeaDoo GTS - Bogging down. Any ideas?

Ski used to run good (top speed ~ 35 mph). Suddenly (next day trip) the following is occuring:

    1. Seemingly Higher Gas Consumption
    2. No throttle response, bogging down, and top speed of 25 MPH !!!

What can cause it to do this all of a sudden? Any tips?

If you mean the engine is bogging down, not the impellor cavatating, Look for obivious things like an exhaust leak into the hull. Do a compression test. Clip the sparkplug leads back for a new connection at the plug boots. See if you find a problem, or fixed it and lets us know.

A better description of the problem may help.

Thank you Bill, here is some more information.

      1. Compression test suggests 120 psi in both cylinders.
      2. The engine idles fine (somewhat rough, but it has always been), but the second that you hit the throtle, it feels like it is trying to pull a 2 ton tank... Before, within seconds, it would get to 35 MPH, even with 2 passengers.

Now, on a flat calm day, with only me on the ski, after seemingly forever, it will hit 25 MPH. The gas consumption has gone up by 50% or so as well. However, this could be because I was operating it at 100% full throtle, all the time... trying to get it to GO.

Let me know if you need any more info - I really do appreciate all your help.

      Regards,

      Edwin.

From the sounds of things, I's be removing and rebuilding the carbureator. After 13 years, it probably needs that anyway. But do those other items first. It could be as simple as a bad connection at the sparkplugs.

Oem compression on that motor is over 150 psi. But guages vary. Test the compression on another Sea Doo to see if your guage is faulty or if your compression is at least 30 psi too low.

also when checking compression maks sure the throttle is wide open. if the motor is winding up check the wear ring
