  • Dess Vs Non-dess

I have two 1997 Seadoo GTX's. I bought them at different times. One of the them has a DESS lanyard but the other doesn't. What makes them different that they need different lanyards?

      2. Is it possible the one lanyard just doesn't say DESS?

        Re: Dess Vs Non-dess

        1) The DESS post is a dead-man system used in later model seadoos. The non-dess is the earlier system.

DESS stands for Digitally Encoded Security System, or something similar. You know you have a DESS post if you have a metal ring around the post. And a metal "dot" on the top of the post. The non-dess posts have just a pole that gets pushed down by the lanyard. Also, DESS lanyards have a peice of metal inside of them that you can see if you look at it.

        2) Yes, it is possible. Do both the posts look identical?

Yes they are the same Wire ring and dot plus strip in lanyard. I am going to say that one of my keys just doesn't say DESS then!! Thank you for the help.
