Stepless strap or hose clamp?

Seadoo uses a stepless clamp on the boot of the drive shaft. When replacing seals is it necessary to replace using sterpless clamp or can you use regular automotive clamp? The stepless requires a proprietary plier from Seadoo which the dealer does not stock along with the clamps.

Use screw clamps on the accordian or hose type boot between the seal and the hull fitting. Use a tye-wrap on the pto grease rubber boot. Do not use a screw clamp on that boot.
