Did you set the rotary valve timing?

I have not. Can I do that with a basic mechanic tool set or will I have to buy a special tool? Is there way I can compare where the rotary valve is opening to where the piston is position or is it more complex than that?

Thanks you guys!! You guys are great and this website is awesome. I only know one mechanic guy and all his answers are vague.
