  • Decision time... Sea-Doo XP or GTX

    Okay guys, I've been posting on a 2001 XP but after doing more research I think I might want the GTX. My question is??? Can and will the GTX be fun?? I know it's not going to be able to carve corners like the XP but it will have far better stability. Will the GTX do decent power slides and maybe run close to 60mph?

    Any info. will be appreciated.

    The 2 ski's I'm looking at are a 2001 XP for $4000 and 98 GTX $3895. Both with trailers.

    only you can make that call. try riding both, i have and would pick the XP - but the gtx can be fun - but doesn't rank on top of my fun scale. i might take a cheap stand up and gtx over one xp.... hmmmm

    try this, :D split the difference and get an RX or RXDI. you can find a 00 RX in same price range if you look, probably the best description - it's a combo of the two.

      I have a 00 GTX RFI and it's great for pulling. 90% of the time we are skiing, tubing, kneeborading, etc. so its great for that. When my buddies and I go out it pulls me (200 lbs) right up with even with a "full" size spotter and driver.

      The gtx is very stable, I have had 3 adults (aprox. 550lbs total) on it just floating and it didn't tip. I have been thrown off several times doing power slides, but you really have to rip it. If you want to do slides and jump waves, you will probably will be better off with the XP. The GTX will jump, but there is more beef to get airborne.

      As for top speed, on the original engine the my GTX would do 59-62 indicated MPH. I installed my SBT engine and it did 58 after I completed the break-in, but now runs 53-54 at around 6700 rpm. I do recommend the fuel injection as it seems to be more idiot-proof then the carbs. Thats a big plus for me. Less adjustments for me to mess with and screw-up.

        ditto that. I have a '99 GTX RFI and really like it. It's pretty stabile with or without passengers. Thing will absolutely haul some major butt.

          Well thanks for the input. I'm going tomorrow to look at the GTX and if it looks as good as they say does. I'm going to buy it. It has a Triton trailer and cover that coming with it. I've got them down to $3,750.00 so far. I'm don't think I'm doing to bad at that price. Around here the GTX's seem to sell really quick.

          Again thanks for the input.

            If it is the GTX-L and has the 951 you should read some of Bill Oneal's post about the early 951's. He knows a lot and says they had a lot of problems the first two years. I believe if i remember correctly after 2000 they were pretty reliable. Maybe he'll reply to this post. Just my .02

                if your not going to jump waves and will ride with 2 or more people then the gtx if your riding alone then the xp it will be much more cumfy in the long run if you ride alone. the 951 any year is a great engine if you get an early one just make sure it has been updated and takin care of .

                BTW the 98 this time of yr should be in the 2500 to 2800 range imo its going to be sitting for the winter soon { depending where you are anyhow }

                  Thanks for your responses. I'm getting the GTX for now. I'm sure I would the XP because I race ATV's. But I'm getting this for me and the girlfriend. And right now she would freak out on the XP if she fell over. And that wouldn't be good.

                  The GTX's down here seem to sell like chicklets. This is the best looking one that includes a trailer for $3,750.00.

                  Hopefully this one will be a good one.

                    That's a pretty good price. I paid 4200 for mine, it was a 99. However, it only had 56 hours on it and it was a garage queen. Came with a double trailer that I swapped for a brandnew single trailer. Wish I'd kept the double but I couldn't get in the boat stall with a boat.
