  • 96 gti elec problems

so i got a 96 gti and on the cdi box the 5a fuse keeps blowing. i put a larger fuse, took the dumb risk, and melted the box. what could cause the fuse to be popping like this? i am getting a new box but dont know what could be causing it to pop. i will take it to the lake and as soon as there is a load on it, it blows. when i put the larger fuse in it, i had a couple hours into it until i screwed my cdi. anyways any help would be appreciated. thanks.

The stator is shorting out under the magneto flywheel.
You fried your MPEM. The CDI is built-into the coil.
Never replace a fuse with a bigger fuse or a bypass. If it needs a bigger fuse, something is wrong.

        Bill,

I pulled the engine and checked the stator and all lines included. I dont see anything wrong here. I dont really know what else to think. What could it be. I had checked battery connections, connections to mpem, connections about everywhere. What else could cause that 5a to blow multipule times? I am picking up a new mpem in the next few days but I need to figure whats going on here. Thanks for the help.
