  • Rotax 717 Tuning Trouble! HELP!

    Hey,

I have a Bombardier Sportster with an SBT 717. I replaced every part on the engine so basically it is brand new. The boat was great- fastest one in the gulf on saturday...however, my oil pump died. I realized it when I was flushing the engine and saw only 1 oil feed line (into the rotary cover) had oil in it. I shut off the engine and checked for damage- luckily everything was fine. I pulled off the pump and installed a block-off kit- keeping the oil tank and "bath" lines. (I tested the oil pump with a drill and it turns out it is leaking from a crack in the side-how did that happen??) I mixed the oil into the gas at about 39:1. Now, the engine runs waaayyy too rich- i cant even get it on plane. I went to lean it out a bit- but "suddenly forgot" which way the screws go- so i turned everything off and am now asking you guys for help. Also, can you tell me the stock settings and where the high and low speed screws should be set?

    Mikuni single carb--

    Thanks,
    Jared

Your motor probably has damage and it bogs because of that damage. Premixing your oil with your gas did not screw up your carb settings all of the sudden and make it run too rich. A bad piston is making it bog.

A two stroke cannot survive two minutes of running time with an empty oil line off the injector pump. It will sieze the piston everytime.

Yes- I had premix and oil injection to make sure the oil pump worked. I reset the carb settings and it works fine now....the pistons are perfect- the engine is fine.

        Thanks

Ok, I did not know you had premix in the tank and oil injection too.
