  • Engine swap tools and goodies

I'm getting ready to place an order for a new 787 and I'm curious if this is everything I'll need?

    Sea-Doo 787 Engine
    80-101Degree Wheel, Sea-Doo
    41-107Installation Gasket Kit, Sea-Doo 787
    83-001Sealant Kit
    BR8ESNGK BR8ES Spark Plug
    BIO-SBTSBT Break-In Oil, Quart
35-160Rebuild Kit for Mikuni SBN Carb
    80-103B
    Sea-Doo Engine Alignment Tool

Do you guys think I'm missing anything or can I drop anything from the list?

    Thanks!
    Glen

Make sure you order 2 of the carb rebuild kits. You have two carbs.

Order two needles and seats (1.5) and a pop off tester.

      I have them in stock.

Thanks for the heads up that the kit is only for one carb. I decided to skip them because the engine ran great, but the crank seal is hosed.

I'll worry about fine tuning in the spring.

        Thanks again!

I grabbed up a rotary valve even though I can't see anything wrong with the old one. Pieces of stainless steel usually don't wear out very easy.

At the same time I decided to switch the ski over to pre mix instead of injection. The block off plate is on the way. So are you guys running 40:1 after the break in?

Now the only last thing to worry about is how thick of a wetsuit it takes to run in 50 degree weather and 50 degree water. :)

            Thanks!

Holy smokes! I get the motor out bt the flywheel was installed by hurcules. I can't get the nut off even with a 3' breaker bar. I sheared off the rag inside the head trying to break it free. :D Looks like it's going in the car to my buddy's shop where a impact will take it off quickly.

The rag thing has me worried, I'll make sure I stuff it more full for the installation, but I won't be putting 150+ ft. lbs. of torque on it.

The water temp isn't the problem, it's the ice cold water hitting your face a 50+ mph, like little needles drilling into your skin...OUCH! last year I wore a full suit, boots, gloves, head bootie, and goggles, but if they air temp isn't warm it isn't fun... :(

Re: Engine swap tools and goodies

You should ALWAYS go thru the carbs on a fresh rebuild or new motor, no questions asked. Pay a little more now or a lot more later.

Re: Engine swap tools and goodies

The problem with this ski is that the crankshaft seal died from sitting for five years. A stealership did it's thing, rebuilt the carbs, tuned it up, new battery, etc, but the crank seal died. My fault for not doing my homework about sitting skiis, but it's mine now and I want it ready to run for a while.

                      Thanks!

Re: Engine swap tools and goodies

Still. it's imperative that you VERIFY that your carbs are set up properly, and that they are clean.......If you don't do this, and the new engine blows up in a few hours, you are out a lot of time and money! If you go thru the carbs, and they didn't need anything, then all you are out is a few hours and about $100.00.....It's your choice, and a risk that I would REFUSE to take!!!

The trouble with two-stroke engines with lean fuel conditions is that the problems usually do not reveal themselves until long after the severe internal
damage has been done to the engine!

With a flywheel puller. :) The nut just had tons of loctite on it, and none of it was on the flywheel. As soon as I find bolts that are long enough for my puller, it should come right off.

I still don't know how there could be a connection between a leaking crank seal and running lean, but I may do the carbs just for kicks.

Leaking crank seal allows air into your cases... Air leak. Too much air, not enough fuel = LEAN.
