Re: 1997 Seadoo Xp Sloppy Crank?
It is possible that the crank is sloppy. It is also possible that the stator is rubbing on the flywheel magneto cup. It is not possible that the stator is rubbing BECAUSE the crank is sloppy. You have two seperate problems.
I think the XP is one on the easier Sea Doo's to work on, if any can be called easy. Easy for a professional PWC mechanic anyway.......
You sound like a great canidate for an SBT motor. You will spend less money if you exchange the engine with SBT.Bill O'Neal
Re: 1997 Seadoo Xp Sloppy Crank?
Yes, that was not so uncommon with an upright Rotax motor. But, I have yet to see that on a 787 slant engine. I guess it may be possible though, even on a 787, but those front bearing would have to be totally coming apart to cause the flywheel to wobble that far. The snout on a 787 crank is much shorter and the flywheel taper is much closer to the cases.Bill O'Neal
Re: 1997 Seadoo Xp Sloppy Crank?
I agree.
You will need a stator assembly if yours has been rubbing. You may need a new magneto and ring gear too. Add that to a rebuilt engine and your parts bill has gotten up to where $500.00 is about what you should be paying for this broken XP. Is the seller willing to sell it to you for $500.00 ?
If you are willing to fix this ski yourself, you should be able to accomplish this for under $1500.00.Bill O'Neal
