96 xp no start

I have a 96 seadoo xp, the starter solenoid just clicks. No voltage out of solenoid. replaced solenoid, still nothing. good battery- tried brand new one. when hit start button voltage drops to 6 volts. replaced starter due to bendix inop. please help

try jumping the solenoid with a 12v battery
i bet your cables are rotten on the inside

Try pulling the spark plugs out and reaching behind the engine, grabbing the PTO flywheel, after taking the cover off and see if the engine turns by hand.

First make sure your battery will pass a load test, then check the ground cable from the battery to the engine cases. If it is OK, jump directly from the positive terminal on the battery to the power lug on the side of the starter motor. The starter should work when you do that. If not remove the starter motor and replace it or repair it.
If it does work, replace your starter relay ( solenoid).

Make sure that the little black wire from the top of the coil box is attached to the negative terminal on your battery.

Many batteries I test will read 12 plus volts on a voltmeter, but not send enough amperage to actually turn a starter motor. That is why we always must load test the batteries before we spend a bunch of time and money replacing hard parts in a ski.

As watercraft age, so does the cables. This makes for losses in the transference of power from the battery to the electrical components. It usually shows up in the starter ciircuits as they require the most power to operate. Testing voltage at the battery, then at the starter motor with the start button depressed will tell you alot about the condition of your cables and the reseve capacity of your battery.

I jumped power straight from the battery to the starter and nothing, but I also only have 1/4 of a volt coming out of the solenoid when the start button is pushed

If you have a good battery, and you jumped straight from that battery to the starter motor, and the ground cable was in good shape and attached to the side of the motor, and it did not cause the starter motor to work, you need a starter motor. You have bypassed the solenoid and all wiring and switches. It should make the starter motor engage and turn the engine if the starter motor and battery anf ground were all good.

one question xp 96 coil is the same than xp 95?? ecept for the wires??

The 1995 XP has a 720 engine. The 1995 XP Limited 800 model has a 787 engine, same as the 1996XP.
A 720 coil is different than a 787 coil. The 720 coil has a built-in CDI, whereas the 787 coil does not have a CDI in the coil. No, you cannot use a 720 coil in a 787 application.
Yes you can use an XP800 (1995) coil in a 1996 XP.

In the future, please tell us if your 1995 XP is the one with the 720 or the 787 engine.

sorry it took a while to get back at you, but the starter is bad. The brand new starter from units direct is bad. I have had some trouble with their starters, and wondering what is going on!
