Yes should be in the black box or could be your coil. Also check the voltage on your battery should be 12.7v - 13v.and check all your connections and grounds,in the electrical box everything should be clean and corrosion free.

disconnect the rev limiter unit ( it controls the kill circuit) and check for spark again

        Re: 1988 Seadoo no spark

A common and very hard to spot ignition problem in all yellow 587 motors is the wire harness that connects the coil to the CDI box in the front magneto cover. This harness viberates badly and eventually will break a wire in the harness, usually right at the connector where it attaches to the coil. For this reason, Sea Doo started putting their electrical ignition parts in a seperate box on all later models.

If you do like the guys have mentioned in these other answers to your question and you still cannot find your problem, look in the magneto housing for the problem. It could be a bad stator, magneto flywheel or possibly that wire harness, all of which are behind the mag housing cover on the front of the engine, and all are part of the ignition system.

          Re: 1988 Seadoo no spark

Thanks for all the replies, but here I am needing more help...
          Ok, check, fuse...good
checked elect. box...looked good and clean and connections are good
disconnected kill switch..... still no spark
          opened up ignition cover
          wires to coil....good and connected
test same wires and received 12+ volts
so I have 12 + volts to coil
tested plug wires and had maybe 1 volt at best when cranking..
Is that all I can do to isolate the coil?
just either see no spark at ends of plug wires or plug when removed from case?
Is it just that 12volts on should produce current to plug, or is there other things I should look at?
PS, what exactly does the sensor on top doing and how important is that connection...Thanks for the help!

Try snipping 1/4" off of your spark plug wires. Twist off the boots and snip there.

The Sensor on the head is a Temp senor. Only needs to be connected if you want to know when you are overheating.
