  • Seadoo battery to charger (55amp setting)

I made the mistake.... I hooked up a battery charger to the battery while connected to my GTS. The charger was set to 55amp startup. After a few seconds I smelled a "electrical burning odor" and discounted everything. What damage may I have done?

you might have got lucky and just boiled your battery. assuming the polarity was correct. most chargers nowdays are automatic even though it may provide up to 55 amp. you might consider buying a smaller charger just for your boat.are even taking the batt out while charging to protect your electrics from cross polarity are voltage spikes etc. heck i used to jumpstart trucks, loaders etc with the welder in my service truck. but those were big and even multiple batteries that could handle 150 plus amps push. i use a 4 amp charger for my toys. just a little input is all. if your batt is old sulfated or such. might be better in the long run to buy a new one at this point. good luck.

Or you could have melted the wires in and around the electrical box and especially the rectifier and/or mpem. Open the grey box and take a look. Check all fuses.
BTW, Jetski batteries are only susposed to be charged at 1.5 amps for long periods of time, unless you have a more expensive gel cell battery.

My second mistake, the Seadoo is a 97 GSX. Wires look good. The 5amp MPEM fuse was blown. I replace it, put the key in, then it blows after about 2 seconds. The VTS wasn't working when the ski was purchased. I don't know if this could be a factor or not. Any advice would be great.

Another update. I borrowed a cd from a neighbor that contained the wiring diagram. I knew I had VTS issues. The motor had water damage. I disconnected the motor and the VTS module and my blown fuse issues went away.

The VTS is connected to the 7.5 amp fuse on the MPEM.
The 5 amp fuse is connected to the magneto charging system.

Replace the VTS assembly and then see if you still have problems.
