98 GTX limited wont crank after first run

I bought a 98 GTX limited about 6 months ago it runs fine out of water although a lil hard to crank for the first time and will crank fine all day after that. when i put it in the water its a lil hard to crank the first time but runs. when you take off its sputters for a sec then runs fine. but if you shut it off for more than 2 to 5 minutes it wont crank till it sits for awile need help drivin me batty
